ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
 
MEETING:
Vice President Krissy Davis started the 10th meeting of the year and the 5,661st meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett with the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
MUSIC:
Mark Valentine, PP, sang a song from the Youngbloods – “Come on People, Smile on your brother, love one another…”
 
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Brian Hollingshead gave the thought of the Day. Live won’t always be fair. Or kind. Show up with courage, integrity and passion.
 
INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS:
Ryan Willis introduced former Rotarian Kaye Phinney and Larry Jubie, Past District Governor, Shawn O’Donnell, South Everett Mukilteo Rotary & Incoming District Governor, David Lukov, Past District Governor & Mount Vernon Rotary. Walt Greenwood introduced Phil Mitchell, Kari Quaas introduced Loretta Hurd, Larry O’Donnell’s partner and Andrea Tucker, President of Historic Everett Organization. Ashley Bolden introduced Khara Turner, US Bank. David Chan, former Everett Rotarian.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Larry O’Donnell – September 10th from 10 am – 2 pm Viewing; September 11th at 11 am private burial, and September 12th at 12 pm at Our Savior Lutheran.
 
Rotary After Hours hosted by Henry Janicki, Osprey Logistics, Thursday, Sept. 17th at 5 pm.
 
Community Coffee Hour at Milk House Coffee, Wednesday, Sept. 9th at 8 am.
 
Puget Sound Kidney Center Dinner & Auction, Saturday, Sept. 12th at 5:30 pm. Krissy David has a Rotary Table. If interested contact her.
 
RESOLUTION for LARRY O’DONNELL:
Bob Bavasi, PP, read a resolution for Larry O’Donnell. Lawrence E O’Donnell, August 14, 1937 – August 8, 2026, grew up in Everett. He went to Western Washington University-Bellingham and married Joyce in 1959. Larry spent 30 years with the Everett Public Schools. The Everett high school library was named after Larry. He wrote many history books, competed in marathons and enjoyed bicycling. The resolution will be given to Larry’s family.
 
HAPPY DOLLARS/BIRTHDAY BUCKS:
Rose Goulet gave dollars in honor of Larry O’Donnell.

There was a reminder to donate more prizes to the Raffle Committee.
 
Winner Number 1 – Jim Schrader selected a bottle of wine.
 
Winner Number 2 – Will McMahan selected a to-go cup and spreads.
 
Winner Number 3 – Jerry Tucker selected a bottle of wine.
 
PROGRAM: Washington State University - Everett
Ryan Willis introduced Hayley Larson, Director of Development, WSU Everett.
 
WSU Everett has a variety of college degrees for individuals. WSU Everett has a 2+2 model. Many students transfer from another college. The school is a Destination Research School.
 
Degrees offered in Everett are Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Data Analysis to name a few.
 
Many of the students are first generation and women. Hayley told two success stories of individuals who attended WSU Everett.
 
WSU Everett works with many companies, Boeing, Microsoft, Fluke, YMCA, and Port of Everett. WSU Everett has about 260 students. Recently the Fluke Engineering Lab opened to students taking 300 and 400 classes.
 
Members had the opportunity to ask questions to Hayley.
 
Vice President Krissy Davis closed the meeting and thanked Hayley for presenting and thanked the bell ringers.
