Log Report 02-10-26
Rotary Club of Everett

PRE- MEETING/MEETING TIDBITS:
Today is national “All the news that’s fit to print day”. In honor of that and in respect to Rotary I will follow the highest journalistic standards. That means today’s LOG will contain only the most essential, dignified, and respectable information.

By the way I’m sorry this is being written and sent out seven days late, I thought the national day was “All the news fit to write and read next week”.

MEETING:
President Kelli Thode led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and into our 31st meeting of our year and our 5,631st meeting of the Rotary Club of Everett. There were 24+/- Rotarians and 12+/- guests in attendance.

MUSIC:
Past President Mark Valintine played and sang a love song from Todd Rundgren (it is close to Valentines Day) that Mark played, as Todd does, in major seven cord. I looked that up and prominent musician’s call it the T-chord.

PROGRAM:
Cassidy Spencer introduced the following Students of the Month.

Cascade High School - Counselor Cindy Kuntz was proud to share Cascade’s Student of the Month, Elliot Carrier along with his parents Rachel and Ben. Elliot is being honored for his high outstanding achievements in academics, engineering, and music. He is an active member of the school’s robotics team, serving as a drive coach and design lead. Elliot has strong leadership and collaboration skills, he is curious, has a strong work ethic, and is dedicated to doing the best in every endeavor. His school music career includes marching band, jazz band, and wind ensemble. This coming fall Elliot plans to attend the University of Washington and major in mechanical or electrical engineering. Elliot thank the Rotary Club for this recognition and gave us a little more insight to his passion for fixing electronics and his desire to work in the robotics’ field.

Sequoia High School - Counselor Tricia Schultz gave us the following highlights of Javier Martinez, the Sequoia Student of the Month for February. Javier consistently demonstrates generosity, responsibility, and quiet leadership. At Sequoia he participated in their food drive and came to school on a Saturday’ to help assist the school’s leadership team. He is on the Student Voice Panel, where he represents his peers with care. Javier has developed a passion for taking and editing photos, showing creativity and dedication to learning new skills. Javier’s presence is powerful, he is patient, calm, thoughtful, and kind.  He leads by example and he reflects the values of his school. Javier thanked the Rotarians for honoring him today.  When he started high school, he was an introvert now he feels like he has grown into an extrovert.  Javier will be moving later this month to Colorado to live with his father.
When he completes his schooling, he wants to get involved in the “trades”.

Everett High School - EHS Principal Kelly Shepard who got the privilege of introducing Everett High School’s Student of the Month Michael Selders and his parents Jen and Brendon. Michael is a young man of character, integrity, and kindness. On the football field and the basketball court he plays hard but supports others even more. Michael has a 3.9 grade point average, is involved in student council, advanced leadership, yearbook, and Interact. A teacher said, “Michael thinks before he speaks and acts, and his peers trust him as a friend and mentor. What impresses me most about Michael, though, is how he considers others and their perspectives first.” Michael thanked all of us and he thanked his parents. He would like to be a teacher.

Cassidy presented each student with a Rotary certificate and thanked them, their counselors, and parents for joining us today.

CLUB HISTORY:
Past President John Olson presented the history of or club’s participation with KIVA, a non-profit organization that facilitates investment via microloans to entrepreneurs around the world. Our own World Community Service committee established an account that currently has $2,000.00 to lend to individuals who want to expand their small businesses and pay back the loans they receive. The committee believes that connecting more club members to international service is a benefit to both the club and our international community, and they us all to participate. Log into KIVA.org and take a look at the various options that are provided.  If you are interested in making a loan, contact John (425-501-8308) and he’ll give you the login information you need to make a loan of up to 100.00.  It’s easy, it’s rewarding, and it’s going to make a difference in the lives of others.
