ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
LEADING OFF:
President Kelli Thode rang the bell at 12 noon, calling to order meeting #5637 of the Rotary Club of Everett and meeting #37 of her presidency.
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
Ashley Bolden shared some memories of Ralph Quaas for our thought of the day.
VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS:
Kari Quaas introduced her husband and Kay Quaas.
Ashley Bolden introduced Kyle Roscoe with Everett Recovery Cafe. She also introduced Minh from BECU and Andre Tucker.
Barbara George introduced Joan Packard, board member of the Everett Museum of History.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
PP Bob Bavasi read a heartwarming resolution for Ralph Quaas, highlighting his many years of dedication to the Everett community.
Heather Barnhart presented a $1,500 grant to Kyle Roscoe and Recovery Cafe.
Jim Staniford announced the Dawson Place Silvertips fundraiser on Saturday, March 28th.
President Kelli announced the upcoming blood drive on April 27th.
PP John Olson reminded members to please submit their fundraiser pledge payments.
President Kelli announced the fundraiser finale on Thursday, April 2nd 5:30-7:00pm at the Imagine Children’s Museum. Friends and family are welcome. Please RSVP.
PP Neil Angst announced that there will be 7 or 8 new fundraiser prizes next week. See Neil if you wish to move any tickets to new boxes.
HAPPY DOLLAR$:
PP Tammy Dunn was happy to be inducted into the Sports Events & Tourism Association Hall of Fame. She also gave $500 to the Rotary fundraiser.
Kari Quaas thanked PP Bob Bavasi for the wonderful resolution for Ralph Quaas.
Cassidy Spencer had some $ in Ralph’s Memory.
Barbara George wished Ralph a happy birthday.
RAFFLE:
Ashley Bolden ran today’s raffle. Winners were:
- PP Mark Valentine won Girl Scout Cookies and a 4 Way Test beer koozy.
- Steve Juntwait also won cookies and a beer koozy.
- One of our guests won a bottle of wine.
PROGRAM: Teen Storytelling Project
Kari Quaas introduced today’s speaker, Chris with the Teen Storyteller Project. The Teen Storyteller Project began in 2019 with 4 students. In the summer of 2020, the project moved to a bigger location. In 2021 they moved to their current location on Rucker Avenue. They purchased a mobile editing system. The project began offering remote camps for film making, podcasting and music creation in 2023. They also began a program for incarcerated teens. The project focuses on:
Narrative film making & documentaries
- Digital music creation
- Video editing
- Story creation & screen writing
- Digital animation
The project currently has 187 students, 72 classes and camps. They have produced 33 short films and 10 documentaries. Goals going forward include:
- Continue to expand the program
- Increase student access
- Create opportunities for youth in the community
- Provide a place for teens to grow their skills
Chris then showed a short film created by some of the students. He then entertained questions from the club members.
CLOSING:
President Kelli thanked Ralph Quaas’ family, Kyle from Recovery Cafe, visitors, bell ringers. She also congratulated PP Tammy Dunn.
